Skilled workers may be and applicant that
have education, work experience, knowledge of English or French and
other abilities which will help them to establish themselves
successfully as permanent residents in Canada.
A skilled worker is someone who has at
least one (1) year of paid full-time (37.5 hours per week or more) work
experience within the past ten (10) years in an occupation in specified
skill categories describe in the National Occupational Classification
(NOC) developed by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada
(HRSDC).
The NOC is divided into five (5) bands:
Skill Type 0 - Management Occupations.
Skill Level A - It is primarily compromised
of professional occupations.
Skill Level B - This consists of technical,
skilled trades and paraprofessional occupations.
Skill Level C - This comprises occupations
that mainly consist of intermediate level, clerical or supportive
functions;
Skill Level D - This consists of elemental
sales or service and primary laborer occupations.
Skilled workers are assessed against a
selection system based on specific factors, for which points are
assigned. According to various selection criteria by Citizenship and
Immigration Canada officials and applicants must attain a minimum score
of sixty-seven (67) points overall
in order to be eligible to become permanent residents of Canada.

Unless they have a job offer by Canadian
employer, skilled workers must have enough funds to support themselves
and their family members in Canada meanwhile they can find a job.
